Family-Friendly Rita Ranch

Rita Ranch is an all-ages friendly master-planned community in southeast Tucson. Residents enjoy living in Rita Ranch because of its easy access to I-10, U of A Technology Park, Davis Monthan Air Force base, downtown, shopping, and medical facilities. Rita Ranch is in the award-winning Vail School District, one of the top public school districts in Arizona.

Purple Heart City Park has many amenities that include a one-mile walking path, playground, lighted Little League baseball fields, skateboard arena, picnic areas as well as a public swimming pool. A lighted, fenced off-leash dog park will be completed by the end of 2011.

Enjoy the many nearby outdoor activities:  hiking trails and campgrounds at Saguaro National Monument East, Colossal Cave Park and the Fantasy Island bike trails.

Rita Ranch is part of Esmond Station Area Development Plan created in 1986 by the City of Tucson. It was so named in reference to the historical Esmond Train Station, which was located near the current neighborhoods of Rita Ranch. Between 1890 and 1910, the nation's growing railway system had finally reached the city of Tucson in the Arizona territory. The Southern Pacific Railroad was the first route, coming south from Phoenix. In the early 1900's, a rail line was established to connect Tucson to El Paso, Texas. This set of lines ran through present day Rita Ranch, and many of the undeveloped areas still have deteriorating tracks that can  still be found today.
